NIO Reaches 4,000 Battery-Swapping Stations

On August 7, 2026, NIO completed its 4,000th battery-swapping station in Quanzhou, Fujian, marking another major milestone in the development of its EV energy infrastructure. The first fifth-generation battery-swapping station also began operation at the same site, with additional fifth-generation stations launching in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Suzhou, Hefei, Chengdu, and Quanzhou. The upgraded swapping network now supports the NIO, ONVO, and Firefly brands.

The fifth-generation station features a newly developed battery-swapping platform with significantly improved vehicle compatibility. It can automatically adapt to different chassis structures and battery pack dimensions, supporting wheelbases of up to 3.5 meters and covering vehicle sizes from compact cars to large SUVs. This enables models across NIO's three brands to use the same swapping infrastructure.

 

By August 7, NIO's battery-swapping service had exceeded 120 million swaps, demonstrating the scalability of battery swapping as an EV energy replenishment solution. The company has also continued expanding its integrated charging and swapping network. As of the same date, NIO had deployed 9,166 charging and swapping facilities nationwide, including 4,006 battery-swapping stations, 5,160 charging stations, and 29,801 charging piles.

The network also includes 1,049 highway battery-swapping stations that connect major national expressway corridors and more than 550 cities. In urban areas, 80.1% of NIO users have access to at least one battery-swapping station within 3 kilometers of their home or workplace. The company is also expanding long-distance EV travel routes, with 88 designated charging and swapping routes already completed and more than 100 planned for 2026.

 

Through continued investment in battery-swapping technology, station compatibility, and nationwide infrastructure, NIO is working to improve EV energy replenishment efficiency and make electric mobility more convenient for both urban commuting and long-distance travel.
